ASUS-PRO P450CA-XH51

Post by Joe2Shoe » Sun Mar 04, 2018 7:55 pm

A friend just gave me an ASUS-PRO P450CA-XH51 laptop in pristine condition, with Windows 10 Pro 64-bit.
Intel i5 3337U 1.80GHz CPU, 6GB RAM, Crucial 250GB SSD, Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000.
Has anyone here installed LM MATE or Cinnamon 18.3 64-bit onto one of these machines?
I just can’t stand Windows. period.
I will boot-up a LM MATE 18.3 64-bit Live USB and give it a whirl.

Many thanks for all assistance.

How to Setup Linux Mail Server

Email is an important part of any Web site that you create. In a home environment, a free web based email service may be sufficient, but if you are running a business, then a dedicated mail server will be required. A mail server is an application that receives incoming e-mail from local users (people within the same domain) and remote senders and forwards outgoing e-mail for delivery, as example Microsoft Exchange, Gmail, etc. The system uses SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) or ESMTP (extended SMTP) for sending e-mail, and either POP3 (Post Office Protocol 3) or IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) for receiving e-mail. In windows forum most of workstations are use Microsoft Exchange server or outlook express. In Linux forum there have also an easiest option to send and receive mail. In Linux configuration of mail server is easy flexible too.

In most of Linux workstation RedHat Linux are used for their Server. In RedHat Linux we use sendmail to create a mail server that will relay your mail to a remote user’s mailbox or incoming mail to a local mail box. On our RedHat we will find sendmail’s configuration file as /etc/sendmail.cf. If you download and compile sendmail you would find it in /etc/mail/sendmail.cf. To configure sendmail you have basically 2 options. Either you edit the sendmail.cf file directly or you create the sendmail.cf from an m4 file such as sendmail.mc. Here to explain the process I will list the steps to produce a custom sendmail.mc file.

SendMail Configuration: In Redhat Linux dovecot and sendmail packages are used as service demon for Mail server. At first I install the available sendmail RPM package by YUM and also the dovecot RPM. After installation first I have edit the sendmail .mc file. After installation of sendmail package it locates as sendmail.mc in /etc/mail. In the sendmail.mc file I have find the line DAEMON_OPTION and edit it with # before the line to uncheck it. Then I find Local Domain and edit it also with the system FQDN. After editing save the sendmail.mc file. After exiting from sendmail.mc I moved this .mc file to sendmail.cf with m4. Here the SendMail configuration is complete. Then I go to the /etc/dovecot.conf file and edit it. I just find the protocol line and uncheck this line. After that I save this .conf file. After all configurations I have start the service demons with chkconfig command and restart the both services. And the mail server was going on swiftly.

So it is very easiest job to configure a mail server in RedHat Linux enterprise server.

I need a back up from windows XP Home Edition

How To Buckup Winxp Unknown to many users, Windows XP offers a simple and easy to use program made specifically to backup your system files. The program can be found by clicking the «Start» button, and navigating through the following menu items; Programs, Accessories, and System Tools.
The program is entitled backup, however do not let the lame title fool you, as the software is both simple to use and very powerful. It is very simple to use, because you only have to specify where you would like the backup file to be stored; there are no challenging questions asked. It is very powerful because it enables you to create a single file that is a complete backup of your entire system.
Once you open the program, you will be greeted with a window containing the backup & restore wizard. After reading the window, you may click on the next button, and you will be greeted with two options; Backup files & settings and Restore files & settings.
After you select «backup files & settings» and click the OK button, you will be greeted with a list of items that you can backup. Because the purpose of this article is to explain to you how to backup your system files, select the option «All information on this computer» and click the next button.
How to successfully make a backup copy of your entire system. You will then be asked for a location to store the *.bak file. Since Windows XP is extremely large, storing the *.bak file on floppy disks is not feasible, as it would take several hundreds, if not thousands of floppy disks to hold the file.
Instead store the file locally on your hard drive. Once the file has been created, you will be prompted to insert a floppy disk. The software will then write a program to the disk that allow you to boot the system using the disk, and restore your system via the *.bak file.
Please remember that the backup file can be extremely large, and requires you to either place it onto a CD, DVD, or in a well protected folder or partition on your computer system.
How to easily restore your backup files. If you ever have the need to utilize the backup file, simply place the floppy disk in your drive, and turn on the computer. The system will boot from the floppy, and ask for the location of the *.bak file. Once you provide the system with the location of the backup file, your system will begin to replace your corrupt system files with your backup files.

Telephone your ISP (Internet Service Provider) and ask for Technical Support.
Get them to check the «outbound» SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) settings,
to make sure that you are using the settings recommended/required by the ISP.

How to configer email address in lotus notes

From what provider are you trying to configure email? If its gmail,

1. Create a Lotus Notes database file to store your POP emails: Lotus Notes does not create a file automatically as Thunderbird or other mail clients do but you have to manually point the mails to flow to a file that is already existing.
2. In the local Address Book, create two accounts for accepting incoming email and sending outgoing email on Gmail. Names are not important but the configuration on the two accounts is!
Account document for Incoming Gmail:
The Basics tab
a. Account name: Can be anything (I chose In Gmail)
b. Account server: pop.gmail.com
c. Login Name: Your gmail email address (complete with the @gmail.com)
d. Password: Your password
e. Protocol: POP
f. SSL: Enabled
g. Only from Location(s): Doesn’t matter. Although I would recommend creating a location document specific for Gmail if you are also using Domino Server. I chose creating a location (Gmail).
Protocol Configuration tab: There is only one field here and it doesn’t matter what you do with it.
Advanced Tab: This is the most important tab.
a. Port Number: 995
b. Accept SSL site certificates: Yes (Most of the articles on the web tell you to choose No here. But it does work. Trust me. I have tried it)
c. Accept expired SSL certificates: Yes. (Most of the articles on the web tell you to choose No here. But it does work. Trust me. I have tried it)
d. Send SSL certificates when asked (outbound connections only): No.
e. Verify account server name with remote server’s certificate: Disabled
f. SSL protocol version: V3.0 with V2.0 handshake
3. Click on Save and Close to save the document and exit. Now you will need to create another account document to handle the outgoing email.
Account document for Outgoing Gmail:
The Basics Tab
a. Account Name: Can be anything. I chose Out Gmail
b. Account server name: smtp.gmail.com
c. Login Name: Your gmail email address (complete with the @gmail.com)
d. Password: Your password
e. Protocol: SMTP
f. SSL: Enabled
g. Only from Location(s): Doesn’t matter. Although I would recommend creating a location document specific for Gmail if you are also using Domino Server. I chose creating a location (Gmail).
Advanced Tab: This is the most important tab.
a. Port Number: 587 or 465 (Both are SSL port and both work)
4. Once these two documents are created, I would recommend creating a location document to ensure that you separate your gmail from your other Domino based account on the client. The steps to create are:
5. In the same local Address Book, choose New —> Location
Basics Tab:
a. Location Type: Local Area Network
b. Location Name: Can be anything (I chose Gmail)
c. Internet Mail Address: Your gmail email address
Leave the rest as it is.
Servers Tab:
a. Home/Mail server: pop.gmail.com
Leave the rest as it is.
Ports tab: No changes (ensure TCPIP is checked)
Mail Tab (Most important):
a. Mail file location: Local
b. Mail file: My Gmail.nsf (whatever you created in step 1 above).
Update: A couple of readers pointed out that I had missed an important step in the configuration how-to. So here it is. Step C has been added to include the missed step.
c. Internet domain for Notes addresses when connecting directly to the Internet: gmail.com
d. Send Outgoing mail: directly to Internet
Leave the rest of the fields as it is.
6. There is no need to change the rest of tabs. Click on Save and Close to create the document.
Change to the the new location and you will see Gmail getting downloaded in the mail file you created.

Asus X205TA hardware support in Ubuntu

I followed the instructions here: https://github.com/lopaka/instructio. asus-x205ta.md and have created a bootable USB stick with Ubuntu 14.10 that works on the Asus x205ta. Much of it is working — desktop, basic mouse functions, proper screen resolution.

However, there are lots of problems with the hardware:-

  • Hot keys do not work, apart from volume up / down / mute. In Ubuntu MATE Linux, there is an Asus Laptop keyboard type but selecting it has no effect.
  • Suspend doesn’t appear to be working. It just turns the screen off.
  • The internal Broadcom wifi card is not recognised.
  • Bluetooth card not recognised.
  • Sound card not recognised.
  • No battery status available. The system thinks it is plugged into the mains.
  • The Micro SD card reader doesn’t work. Cards are not recognised or mounted.
  • The trackpad does not support anything more than pointer positioning and right / left clicks. No multi touch (for example, two finger scrolling).
  • An external wifi card (EdiMax) will work, but is flaky; times out.

I am sure there are other problems and I know there is another thread that talks about running 14.04 on the X205TA.

I ran the utilities requested in that other thread and the output is here.

Output of ‘sudo lspci -knn’

The Edimax card is an external USB micro wifi card. I think the Realtek device is the sound card.

How can this be progressed? It’s a great machine otherwise, and (reportedly) on sale for only $99 in Staples for Black Friday (2014). You lucky Americans get all the best deals — I think there are going to be an awful lot of people buying them.
